Therapeutic Approach
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with an interest in how unconscious processes may manifest in our behaviour. With the awareness that people experience a wide range of psychological difficulties, I am adaptive in my approach to integrate different ways of working that are best suited for the individual and their presenting difficulties. I find it meaningful to work collaboratively with individuals to gain a holistic understanding of themselves beyond the present. The therapy process also facilitates the individual’s self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on current difficulties. As Carl Jung would put it, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate”.
The decision to start therapy is a courageous and equally vulnerable one. Perhaps you have had losses of different kinds, started feeling different from your usual self, or experience an urge to know and understand yourself better. Therapy is a space that can help navigate these experiences, learn new ways of being, and overcome life hurdles.
In understanding this, in therapy, I aim to create, together with the individual, a space that feels safe, holding and challenging enough to facilitate psychological healing and growth. Therapy aims to facilitate, for the individual, the journey of accessing and exploring the deepest and usually vulnerable parts of the self. Together with what the individual aims to achieve, the goal of therapy is to fundamentally work on how the individual experiences and relates to themselves, to other people, and to the world around them.
